New Laws for New Drivers

1. Everyone under the age of 25 has to receive some type of classroom training before they can obtain their learner’s permit.

The Two Paths
Under 18
If the person is under 18 then the student must complete a state certified driver education course that involves 32 hours of classroom training and 14 hours of in car training.
Over 18
If the person is over 18 then there is a 6 hour classroom course required. The main job of this course is to teach the needed knowledge for the learner’s permit test and give that test at the end of the course.

2. Everyone must take a driving test at the D.P.S.

3. Students under 18 must document that they have driven/ practiced 10 hours during the day and 10 hours at night beyond the required 14 hours previously mentioned.

4. Students under 18 must hold their learner’s permit for 6 months.

5. After a young person under 18 gets their driver’s license they can only have one other non family member under the age of 21 in the car with them for the first year of driving.

6. Absolutely no cell phone usage for any driver under the age of 18.

7. The student cannot drive between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. for the first year they have their driver’s license.
